Old Business
David Steen spoke about the Mustang Car Show, to be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The show coordinator expects 25-50 cars and will need parking locations to display the cars. Wimberley Merchants Association will advertise the event.
David Steen spoke about shops remaining open until 8pm one Thursday a month, either the 2nd or 3rd Thursday.
BBQ Battle will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016. Jacque Mason is coordinating with David Reynolds to advertise the event to BBQ teams. Bands/musicians will be playing at various locations. Shari Miller will apply with TABC for a second beer/wine sales location license. We have inventory of beer and wine left over from Winter’s Eve to use.
Mary VanOstrand is ready to print the Shopper’s Guide. She will coordinate the printing and communicate with merchants regarding the deadline to join WMA in order to appear in this printing.
New Business
Jolene Conway from the Wimberley Civic Club spoke about the Wimberley 1k Wine Walk, Thursday, March 31, 2016, 5-8pm. She encouraged shops to remain open and staff with extra employees. Postcards announcing the event will go to B&B’s and merchants. The walk will begin at Taste Buds and finish in the back of Cypress Creek Café. Preregistration is $30.00 and they are hoping for 200 enrollees. With registration, you receive a commemorative wine glass, reusable wine bag, race bib, coupons and special offers, and a map of the wine stations. They are awaiting responses from wineries to participate and expect to have them by March 1st. Merchants can sponsor a wine/tasting station; they are still working on cost to merchant to do so. Wine/tasting stations will be located throughout the route. Jolene can be contacted at 660-864-3479 or jcjcconway@gmail.com for more information.
Becky from the Wimberley Civic Club spoke about the opportunity for merchants to donate to silent auctions at Talk of the Town events. Business names will be displayed with donated items. Becky can be contacted at 713-201-5567 to coordinate donating.
Jacque Mason will write the Wimberley City Council requesting permission to close parking lots for both the BBQ Battle and Mustang Car Show.
Traci Ferguson reviewed the proposed edits to the current By Laws and a new accompanying Code of Conduct. The revised version of these documents will be presented for approval at the March 7, 2016 WMA meeting.
Jacque Mason attended the last Wimberley Valley Tourism (WVT) meeting. They are developing an experiencewimberley.com website and encourage merchants to share pictures and information about their products to this website. Membership in WVT is free. Jacque distributed membership forms and will turn them in for the merchants wishing to join.
